Los relicarios góticos del Santo Sepulcro (siglo XIII) y de la Santa Espina (siglo XV) de la catedral de Pamplona
Abstract
Making use of literary sources and old photographs full of novelties, this research tries to prove that the so-called Holy Thorn Reliquary (Pamplona Cathedral, Spain) was made to be incorporated to the Holy Sepulchre Reliquary, probably between 1415 and 1423, commissioned by Blanca de Navarra (at that time dowager queen of Sicily). It’s demonstrated that this Holy Sepulchre Reliquary always contained the holy thorn toghether with other relics from Holy Land given by Saint Louis. It’s described the restauration processing in XX century. Arguments are combined to conclude that the Holy Sepulchre Reliquary, wonderful work of parisian goldsmiths closely bound to architectural, sculptural and sumptuary works around 1250, could have been given by king Teobaldo II to Pamplona Cathedral in...
