Abstract

The Cistercian monastery of Santa María de Veruela, located in Zaragoza province, was founded in 1146 and quickly began to accumulate numerous lands throughout its environment. Twenty km from Navarre, monks obtained many properties in this kingdom, mainly in villages like Cascante, Tudela or Buñuel. These lands were not worked by distance, but they were useful to get in exchange other properties around the abbey. Veruela’s constant interest in Navarre during the Middle Ages and its continued presence in the affairs of everything that happened on Ebro and Queiles rivers is what is studied in this article.
