Abstract

The private archive of Zozaya´s family (Navarre), allows to describe and analyze the large estates administration of this family in Cuba, in Matanzas region, which were named Soledad (a) Bemba, Nueva Bermeja and El Mulato. Later, on 1896, Ariguanabo large estate was added. This article analyzes the conditioned sales which were made to settlers in order to build their agrarian ingenios so the old owner kept for himself a fixed amount per year. Furthermore the article analyzes the general administration and payments from 1863 until 1909. The most significant period in which the author makes emphasis about large estates financial and administrative situation is between 1864 and 1909, thereby, through administrators and old owner mail, we know the situation of...
