Abstract

Magdalena Eguaras (1574-1645) is an example a of woman from the Navarrese nobility who devoted her vast wealth to the patronage of the arts and charities. Born in Tudela (Navarra) and married to another noble, her life –almost completely unknown until now– is developed between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. The article discusses his life, analyzes the patronage she had on her hometown, particularly in the art and music area. Unpublished data on the socalled «legacy to marry orphan», instituted by her and its organization remained in force until the second half of the twentieth century.
