Antieclesialismo en el semanario ugetista ¡¡Trabajadores!! y antisocialismo en el semanario diocesano La Verdad (1931-1936) [Antiecclesialism in the UGT’s monthly publication ¡¡Trabajadores!! and antisocialism in the diocesan weekly La Verdad (1931-1936)]
Abstract
The author reviews the collection of Pamplona’s socialist-UGT weekly paper ¡¡Trabajadores!! (1932-1936) and studies how the figure of Christ is treated; various and very different concepts of religion, the belligerent attitude of the publication’s contributors towards the Church, the clergy, the Catholic parties and trade unions, etc. The article then goes on to present the opposing position of the diocesan weekly La Verdad regarding the social question and socialism, the use of Leo XIII’s and Pius XI’s social encyclicals, and how socialism was caricaturised, beginning with Marx and ending with how socialist militants supposedly lived. With specific texts in both cases and outlining the specific circumstances.
