Metáforas y contexto social en sermones del siglo XVIII [Metaphors and Social Context in 18th Century Sermons]
Abstract
This work aims to describe and analyze the lexicon of a public discourse –that one of sermons– in order to show how these documents used to reflect that time religious ideology according to the metaphoric use of language. Metaphors are a useful device for conditioning the public, which was subordinated to the underlying ideology of these sermons’author, in which their communicative finality is crucial. Furthermore, extralinguistic factors such as the sociohistoric context –clearly Christian in 18th Century Spain– will be taken into account. T he corpus of this investigation is based on the 18th Century sermons collection from Casa Lujena’s private archive in Redín (Navarre).
