Abstract

The author dusts off judicial proceedings in which Pedro de Arazuri and Diego de Larragueta, market gardeners from the district of Iuslarocha (Rochapea), were tried and judged in 1572 by the alcaldes de la justicia of Pamplona for having pronounced «high-flown words» during Christmas 1571. As part of the trial, the Ordinances governing the relations of the market gardeners, the Perpetual prayer which they recited on certain holidays and when they met, and a list of the deceased from the neighbourhood (transcripts) were provided as evidence. While not strictly a guild, they sometimes gathered as a chapter, had a prior and foremen, and belonged to the parish of San Lorenzo.
