Azcona de Yerri [Azcona, Yerri]
Abstract
This short microhistory paper on the village of Azcona (Valley of Yerri) consists of five parts. The first takes a vertical straight-line look at the history of the village from when it started to take shape around a tower in the Middle Ages up to the 19th and 20th centuries, including wars and historical events in between. The second part studies the government and economy of the village, arable and livestock farming, culture and health, social composition (hidalgos, foranos, jornaleros). The third part deals with the Parish Church of San Martín (c. 1200) and its organisation. The fourth part examines the village’s shrines: Mendigaña and Santa Catalina, which belonged to the abandoned village of Ciriza. The author ends with some...
