Abstract
Given the failure of the regular army in Navarra and the occupation of the territory by the French, armed resistance in the form of guerrilla warfare, another way of waging war, came to the fore. Guerrilla warfare requires minimum planning in order to perform acts of war, a charismatic leader and the unconditional support of the population, be it through the incorporation of volunteers, the provision of vitals and money or simply indirect collaboration.
The composition of guerrilla forces was heterogeneous: from clergymen, noblemen, merchants, farm owners and students, who generally acted as leaders, down to peasants, craftsmen and deserters from the imperial army.
