Petachia de Regensburg, viajero judío contemporáneo de Benjamín de Tudela [Petachia de Regensburg, a Jewish traveller and contemporary of Benjamín de Tudela]
Abstract
Petachia de Regensburg, a 12th century Ashkenazi rabbi, journeyed – just like Benjamín de Tudela – to Palestine and to the extensive territory which, in Jewish tradition, was named Babylon. Both travellers recorded their travels in their respective written works: Benjamin de Tudela in his Sefer Massa’ot (Book of travels) and Regensburg in the Sibbuv (Circuit/Circular journey). Logically, there are great coincidences between Benjamín and Petachia, between the Sefer Massa’ot and the Sibbuv. This work is structured around the conviction that a view from the perspective of the Sibbuv must help to enrich and gain a greater insight into Benjamín de Tudela, and vice versa.
